Take part in our Summer 2010 Perceptions Survey.

SurveyRSST are holding our Summer 2010 Perceptions Survey between 16th June and 9th July 2010.  The survey aims to capture people's perceptions of the situation regarding red and grey squirrel numbers in their local area.  We would therefore very much like anyone who lives in a red squirrel county to take part.

The response to our Winter Survey in December 2009 was fantastic - around 250 people took part.  We would like to double this number this time around, so please encourage your friends, colleagues and relatives to take part as well.

The results of the winter survey indicated that red squirrel numbers may have remained stable, and in some areas actually risen. The strongest perceptions of an increase in red squirrel numbers were found in South Cumbria, North East Scotland, the Isle of Wight and along the Sefton Coast in Lancashire. In South Cumbria there was even a perception that grey numbers had decreased, which would be very good news for reds.

We will conduct the survey twice a year. This way we can build up a picture of trends around the UK. However, it is very important that sightings also continue to be reported locally; this survey supplements existing systems, and does not replace them.

We will send a link to the survey results to all participants once they have been collated. You will also find reports of reds returning around the UK on the reds returning map on our website.
